asleep in my parents bed while tree tore my bedroom out
i was awoke, oh, i heard them yell
heard the wind in the hall
it was beautiful

i was born by a blinking signal, thrown thru last century
spun some internal code on switchboard of feeling
i was alone, oh, i heard the sound
heard my cut in the choir
it was around

but who am i to say a ribbon is not a string
you read all you can take and you forget everything

walk through the eager dawn, my feet slicking history
lost but for pocket map, and doomed but for hearing
i go one, oh, i look back
i listen close
